NOTIONS OF SELF – exploring theories of immunity
Symposium | 30 September 2014 | ICBAS – U.PORTO
It is well-known that the self-nonself divide has been a central topic throughout the history of immunology. It remains an open question still fuelling current debate in which both text and imagery are important. That question is also a philosophical one. In what extent and how experimentation might contribute in view of its elucidation? What is the role of theories in the dynamics of experimental knowledge production in this regard? Are these two kinds of questioning fostering each other’s development?
The meeting program develops from these general questions and emphasizes theoretical enquiry, visual culture and laboratory practice.
